~The average arctic winter has already increased by 11 degrees Fahrenheit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The northern polar ice cap has decreased in thickness by 60% over the past 40 years and it is expected to be completely gone with-in the next 50 years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~25% of all land animals and plants could become extinct by 2050 because of global warming.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Rice growth has decreased by 10% for each degree of warming.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Polar bears will be driven to extinction by 2100 and most likely it will be earlier.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~2008 saw the fifth largest ozone hole in history stretching 27 million kilometers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Experts predict we only have about 97 months to stop the process of global warming. We must act now or else the human impact will be irreversible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The Sub-Sahara Africans are going green with their meals. Food has been decreased by nearly 12% while it has gone up 1/3 per person over the last 40 years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Manure could possibly be used as an energy source in the future. Everyone better gather up some horses. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Leading ice specialists in Europe and America have agreed for the first time that a ring of navigable waters are opening up in the Arctic which is dreadful news.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~About 1/6 of all the electricity generated in the US is used to air condition buildings.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~By 2100, CO2 concentrations could reach 490-1260 ppm and we are at 380 ppm right now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The El Nino phenomenon will definitely be increased due to the warmer ocean waters.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Sea level is rising at a faster rate than in the last several thousand years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~In dry and wet areas, the measures have been way more extreme. Dry areas are receiving more droughts and wet areas are receiving more floods.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Livestock production is responsible for more Co2 emissions (18%) than all forms of mechanised transportation combined (13%) -Thanks to Meat Meanz Murder for this fact!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Since 1990, emissions have increased by about 20%.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Almost all of the 300 major glaciers are shrinking in size which is really raising sea levels.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The average US household generates more than 80 tons of CO2 gases every year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Forests that would entirely cover the country of Panama are cut down each year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Humans are pouring more CO2 into the atmosphere than oceans and trees can regulate. That is why we are seeing these changes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Sea level could rise between 7 and 23 inches by 2100 which would flood many places.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The ocean's circulation system could be altered which would cause a mini-Ice age in western Europe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~At some point in the future, global warming will be uncontrollable so we need to act now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Some solar mechanisms could play a role but most scientists agree that humans are the cause.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Power plants emit 40% of U.S. carbon dioxide pollution, the primary cause of global warming.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Only 10% of the energy used by an incandescent bulb produces light, the other 90% is given off as heat.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Half of the forests that originally covered 48% of the land surface are now gone. Only about 1/5 of Earth's original forests remain untouched.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The polar ice cap is now melting at the rate of around 9% per decade. The ice thickness has almost halved since the 1960's.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Almost 25% of the polluting matter in the air over Los Angeles comes from China. They have multiple factories and cars that emit greenhouse gases which get sent over to LA.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Small rodents are having to move to elevated grounds due to changes in their habitat.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Most of the plants in the Arctic are usually covered by snow but in recent decades, the plants have been blooming which means temperatures are rising.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Permafrost underground is also shrinking along with the glaciers. This is causing the ground to sink unevenly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Ruins around the world will be, ruined. Rising temperatures and extreme conditions are already destroying these irreplaceable sites.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Mountains have slowly been growing due to the glaciers being melted off the top of them. This is not a good thing as people near mountains are in great danger.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~It is more than 90% sure that humans cause global warming. That was the unanimous conclusion by the IPCC.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Eleven of the last twelve years were the hottest ever recorded. That is since 1850 and the high temperatures of the last 50 years are unusual for the last 1300 years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~We are dumping about 1,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every second. They are mostly from burning fossil fuels.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The current atmospheric concentrations of CO2 are 35% greater than pre-industrial times.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~More than 1 million species will become extinct by 2050 if we don't start doing something.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Greenhouse gases levels are higher now than in the past 650,000 years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Humans have increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by more than 1/3  since the Industrial Revolution.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~China emits the most greenhouse gases but America is not far behind. Not to mention, China has well over 1 billion people and we only have a little over 300 million.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The World Health Organization blames global warming for 150,000 deaths per year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~CO2 stays in the atmosphere for around 100 years so even if we stop emissions all together, we would still see the effects but it would at least slow down the process.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere was as low as 190 ppm 21,000 years ago.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~.00478 ppm rise annually and that was in 1900. Now, it is even higher annually.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~1959-1999, the world population doubled to 6 billion people. It is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~16,000,000 cars are being added to the global fleet each year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The concentration of CO2 increased 2.87 ppm in 1997-1998, more than in any other year of record.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The Arctic temperatures have risen at twice the global average. This is why ice is melting so fast.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, is also attributed in part to climate change by some experts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting—for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Soils in test plots have lost about 20 percent of their natural carbon. This effect, if widespread, could dramatically increase Earth's atmospheric CO2 levels far above even conventional worst-case models.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~The global average temperature could rise as much as 11 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100. Cooler areas might like the warm change but people and animals in warm areas already are at great risk.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Flash floods will likely increase across all parts of Europe by 2020. This puts more people at risk. Europe will not be the only continent to see more flash floods but it will be the continent at greatest risk.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Australia will have an additional 3,200-5,200 heat-related deaths per year. New York City will have an extra 500-1,000 people die each year the same way. These numbers may seem small but they are huge growths from what we see today.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~Between 1.1-3.2 billion people will have a water shortage by 2080. We really need to start conserving our water more. Otherwise, we will continue to overuse our fresh water and eventually run out by the year 2080.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~A whopping 125 lakes in the Arctic have disappeared over the past few decades. It is only getting worse. This is also evidence that warming is working very fast near the poles, more than any other area. Normally, the ground under the water has permafrost but the heat melted that away causing the water to drain through the soil.
